About TJ

Picture
I was born and raised in the tiny south-central town of Fairfield, Pennsylvania, located a stone's throw from the Mason-Dixon Line and just a few miles away from the famous Civil War battlefields of Gettysburg. I grew up in a place where everybody knew my name (cue music from Cheers), and my faith was nurtured greatly by the encouraging love of my family and the faithful community of my childhood church.

I've had a wide variety of experiences in my life, having worked as a restaurant server, a graphics lab assistant, a job hazard analyst, a theatre stagehand, and a public school teacher. Still, my greatest passion and joy in life has been service to Christ's church. Prior to becoming I pastor, I led an ecumenical campus ministry, worked as an audio/visual technician in worship, volunteered as a hospital chaplain in a trauma hospital, and worked in middle school youth ministry.

I was ordained to pastoral ministry in September 2014, and was nurtured greatly by the congregation of St. Giles Presbyterian Church in Greenville, SC, where I served as Associate Pastor for Family Ministry & Discipleship until 2019. Now in my second call, I'm serving as the Associate Pastor for Family Ministry of Faith Presbyterian Church in Cape Coral, FL. One of the things I love most about the Presbyterian tradition is our connectional nature, so I'm passionate about service to the larger church. Currently, I'm serving on the Leadership Council of the Association of Presbyterian Church Educators, as co-moderator of Peace River Presbytery's
Misión Peniel mission team, and as a member of Thornwell's Board of Trustees.

I married my high school sweetheart, Megan, in October 2010, one month after moving to Richmond for seminary.  In 2017 we welcomed Layton, our first child, into the world - yet another example of God's incredible graces in my life. In our free time, you'll find us frequenting local coffee shops, cooking and baking, discovering new restaurants, exploring the local (and national!) theatre scene, singing and dancing at the piano, advocating for the full inclusion of LGBTQ+ people, and playing with our two rascally cats Amos and Fiyero.
