Musings & Meditations

Thanks be to God for you, St. Giles.

7/26/2019

To the Members & Friends of St. Giles -

I have accepted God's call to serve alongside the congregation of Faith Presbyterian Church in Cape Coral, Florida as their new Associate Pastor for Family Ministry. The great excitement I feel for this new adventure is matched only by the sadness I feel for preparing to say goodbye to a congregation I love so dearly.
It has been nothing short of a joy to serve alongside you in ministry these five years. Arriving to Greenville right out of seminary, you have helped me to step into my role as pastor – supporting me as I've honed gifts for ministry, providing space to try new (even wacky!) ideas, and offering affirmation that God has called me to the ministry of Word and Sacrament. For all of this, I give thanks to God for you.

Together, we have sought to roll up our sleeves and get to work, attempting to put our faith into practice where the rubber meets the road. We have worshiped boldly and creatively. We have formed the faith of every age through both traditional means and brand new ways, like Frolic Faith. We have nurtured new intergenerational relationships through events such as the beloved Fall Ball. We have recognized our call to serve our mission field near and far, strengthening relationships with Thornwell, United Ministries, the Eastside YMCA, and Matthew 28. For all of this, I give thanks to God for you.

As one of your pastors, I have eagerly walked alongside you in some of your greatest joys and deepest sorrows. I count this among the greatest privileges of my life. Likewise, you have taught me how to humbly accept the love and prayers of an eager congregation amidst my own joys and sorrows. You have loved our family so, so well - celebrating with Megan and me in the birth of Layton, supporting us as he recovered from surgeries, and grieving with me upon the sudden death of my brother Jason in 2017. For all of this, I give thanks to God for you.

I have shared news of my new call with the Session and staff. They will be working on a game plan for this transitional time. Please be in prayer for the staff and elders – and consider stepping in with a helping hand as the need arises! Of course, I also covet your prayers for Megan, Layton, and me as we prepare to move to Southwest Florida.

If the way be clear, my last Sunday here will be August 18. In the meantime, ministry at St. Giles continues with some very fun events – including Spectacular Summer Sunday and a Greenville Drive outing – right around the corner! I'm looking forward to making lots more memories over the coming weeks… memories our family will surely cherish for a lifetime.

God is good to have called us together for shared ministry these past five years! I give thanks to God for you, St. Giles.

This is a good letter from a great pastor's heart.

God bless you, TJ, Megan, and Layton.

God bless you, St. Giles.
